I can’t believe that I am 3 months into the Paramedic Academy already. Time has flown by so quickly, I can’t even fathom it.
So far, I am maintaining a decent grade on the written material, but nailing the NREMT Advanced Psychomotor testing is daunting. I’ve never been tested to this type of standard before, but I am working hard on it. Having a test where you either find out “Pass” or “Fail” without knowing what you screwed up on is… odd. While we aren’t taking the actual NREMT tests right now, we do absolutely need to show competency in the skills. I have the skills (For the most part. Fine adjusting those skills is the art, of course!), but remembering the exact order for the testing (versus real life) is my problem. I’m getting there. Almost all of the students in the class have been doing this from day one of their EMT training, but as one of those who are “grandfathered in”, I never did. Of course, we were skills tested in class when I took my EMT training, but here in CA, the NREMT standard wasn’t applied until the last few years.
We’ve studied a huge amount of material. Exam #3 is tomorrow. I came up for air long enough to let you all know I am still around. Well, now it’s time to get back to the books.
